项目背景

Chinaway Volunteers Program 是连续了十几年的暑假义工项目。这个项目的口号是“帮助他人，提高自己”。在过去的16年里，该项目不仅帮助中国农村及乡镇孩子学习英语口语，美国文化，以及用英文表达中国文化；也培养了美国学生的领导能力，表达能力，于此同时美国学生也提高了中文水平，演讲水平，开阔了学生的国际视野，学会了如何完成现实中的任务。参加这个项目的学生几乎都进入了美国名校。

当今世界，中国与美国是并行于世界的两大社会体系，治国理念，文化传统，管理规则，道德价值等等都有相当的不同。但两个国家的交流合作，或竞争冲突在世界舞台上又扮演了非常重要的作用，所以了解中国，了解不同于西方体系的社会运作系统在世界上如何发挥作用，是非常重要的，对在美国追求卓越的人拥有极大的启迪作用，而此项目能让学生通过实践深入的了解与认识中国。

Program Background

Chinaway Volunteers Program is a summer volunteer program that has been running for more than 10 years. The program's slogan is "Help Others, Improve Yourself". Over the past 16 years, the program has not only helped children in rural China and townships to learn spoken English, American culture, express Chinese culture in English; it has also developed American students' leadership and presentation skills, as well as allowed American students to improve their Chinese, speaking skills, broaden their international vision, and to learn how to accomplish real-world tasks. Almost all the students in this program have attend high ranking Universities.

In today's world, China and the U.S. are two parallel major social systems in the world, with quite different philosophies of governance, cultural traditions, rules of management, and moral values. However, the exchange and cooperation, or competition and conflict between the two countries play a very important role in the world stage, so it is very important to understand China, to understand the social operation system that is different from the Western system, for some career development. This is a great inspiration for those who pursue excellence in life. This program will give students a deeper understanding of the Chinese system through practice.

项目简介

今年Chinaway 暑假义工项目将恢复到疫情前的一般行程，到中国乡镇教授英语口语与美国文化，培养学生的领导力。今年支教的地方是中国成都都江堰以及成都周围乡镇。

项目时间：2024年6月16日至7月14日，分两期。第一期：6/16 ~6/30; 第二期：6/30~7/14（所有时间都是中国时间）

项目内容：进入当地学校给中国学生教授英语口语，英语阅读与美国文化；与中国社区，乡村进行文化交流；当中国暑假课堂，夏令营的小老师或老师助理；到大熊猫基地体验当饲养员；参观当地名胜要地。

要做的事：参与的学生将在中国课堂上教授英语口语，英语日常对话，中国学生年级可能涵盖小学1年级到高中1年级（1~9年级），要自己编写教材，安排课程，管理课堂，要让参加活动的中国孩子都愿意并且能够开口说英语。组织并参与当地乡村公益夏令营，以及其它中国的研学夏令营活动，要教授的课程包括，但不限于：演讲，唱歌，跳舞，戏剧，美国游戏，绘画，做PPT等，要将中国老师的课堂内容简单翻译为英语，让中国孩子提高英语词汇，丰富国际视野。这些工作不仅锻炼志愿者的中英文表达能力，也将锻炼志愿者的组织能力，解决问题能力，艺术创意，学术研究等等能力。

Program Description

This year, the Chinaway program will return to its usual pre-epidemic schedule: teaching English and American culture in rural China and developing student leadership skills. This year's program will take place in Dujiangyan, Chengdu, China, and the surrounding towns of Chengdu.

Project Duration: June 16 to July 14, 2024, in two phases. Phase 1: 6/16 ~ 6/30; Phase 2: 6/30 ~ 7/14 (all times are China time)

Program Content: Go to a local school to teach English speaking, reading and American culture; engage in cultural exchanges with Chinese communities and villages; work as a teacher or teacher's assistant in a Chinese summer classroom or camp; experience working as a breeder at a panda base; visit local attractions and places of interest.

Task in Program: Participating students will be taught oral English and daily conversations in a Chinese classroom, Chinese students range may be from 1st grade to 10th grade; will write/prepare own textbooks, organize curriculum, and manage Chinese classrooms so that all participating Chinese children are willing and able to speak English. Organize and participate in summer camps in local villages and other Chinese study camps, teaching classes including(not limited) to: speech, singing, dancing, drama, American games, painting, PPT, etc. Translate the Chinese teacher's class content into English, so that the Chinese children can improve their English vocabulary and enrich their international vision. These jobs not only exercise your ability to express yourself in English and Chinese, but also enhance your organizational skills, problem solving skills, artistic creativity, academic research and so on.

报名要求 Registration requirements

此项目接受报名时在读9年级或9年级以上的学生。要求学生：自愿参加，身心健康，积极向上，热爱中国文化，能按要求完成教学工作，能够独立生活。 我们优惠录取愿意担任小组长，有领导能力，有演讲或教学经验，有表演才能的学生。

This program is open to students who are in grade 9th or above at the time of enrollment. Required students: voluntary participation, physical and mental health, positive, love Chinese culture, able to complete teaching as required, able to live independently. We offer preferential/discount admission to students who are willing to serve as group leaders, have leadership skills, speaking or teaching experience, and have performance talent.
